Fish and Duck Houseboats is located on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia, on Sproat Lake. With only a short drive from Port Alberni Fish and Duck Houseboats is conveniently located. There is a lot of activities to have fun with and considering the crystal clear warm waters of Sproat Lake swimming and other water activities will be top of the list.
Houseboats
Fish and Duck Houseboats has a large fleet of houseboats (22) offering a number of models that can accommodate from 8 to 15 people. All houseboats come equipped with the comforts of home including full kitchen with appliances and utensils, bathrooms, BBQ and slide. Depending on the model you choose you can also experience a hot tub, TV, DVD, stereo and more. Be sure to check out their website what is actually included in each model.

Experience Required
Previous experience is not required. You will be provided instruction on operating the houseboat, safety requirements, how to read maps, buoys and channel markets. For the first few minutes someone may join you out of the harbor to ensure you are comfortable with the houseboat. Anyone operating the houseboats/ski boats be 19 years of age or older
Licensing
You do not require a boating license (Pleasure Craft Operator Card) to rent a houseboat. Prior to departure you will be provided a safety checklist for review. Be sure to ask any questions if you are not sure. Once completed you will be issued a temporary license that is good for your trip. You will need to keep this document readily available if request by officials.

Pets are allowed however no more than two and a pet fee of $75 will apply. You will need to pre-register your pet at time of booking.

Local Weather
May to October weather for Sproat Lake, near Port Alberni, British Columbia, in half-month steps (days 1–15 and 16 through the end of the month). Air, precipitation, and wet days use nearby Alberni Robertson Creek observations, about 10 km away (climate ID 1030230).
- Each tile is one half-month from May through October. Early is days 1–15. Late is day 16 through the end of the month. Every tile shows a value.
- Air temperature, precipitation, and wet-day percentage are 2021–2025 daily averages from Environment and Climate Change Canada, Alberni Robertson Creek (climate ID 1030230). High and low are the average of each year’s half-month mean, so each year counts equally. A year is included for a variable only when that half-month was observed on at least 80% of its days. Precipitation is the mean of each included year’s half-month total; missing days are not filled in. A wet day has at least 0.2 mm, among precipitation observations in the years included for that half-month. Days flagged missing are left out.
- High temperature leaves out early June 2024 (6 of 15 days), late June 2024 (4 of 15 days), late July 2021 (9 of 16 days), early August 2021 (0 of 15 days), late August 2021 (0 of 16 days), and early September 2021 (8 of 15 days). Low temperature and precipitation include all five years. Missing days in an included half-month are not filled in. The largest gap in an included half-month is 3 days, in late October 2025.
- Maximum temperature is missing on many more days than minimum temperature, including all of August 2021. Those thin half-months are left out of the high only. Minimum temperature and precipitation stay in when they meet the 80% rule.
- Precipitation is liquid equivalent (rain plus the water in any snow), in millimetres per half-month.
- Sunshine is not biweekly. Alberni Robertson Creek does not publish bright sunshine. Each month’s existing normal is repeated on both of that month’s tiles. Those hours are 1981–2010 normals from Comox Airport (climate ID 1021830), about 50 km east. Comox is on the east coast of Vancouver Island, in a drier rain-shadow climate than Sproat Lake. Those hours are not a 2021–2025 average.
- 23 days in the included half-months are flagged as a trace (under 0.2 mm). A trace counts as dry and adds nothing to the half-month total.
- Tile temperatures are rounded to the nearest degree.
