Located in the Mactaquac Lake region of the St. John River Lakeway Houseboat Vacations offers a unique experience in the houseboat capital of Eastern Canada. While enjoying your relaxing vacation onboard top quality houseboats you are able to enjoy the sun on the upper deck in the hot tub or splash into the water from the waterslide.
The beautiful St. John River provides a pleasant sailing experience without the concern of channels, currents or tides. Several communities, towns, villages and attractions are easily accessible so that you can enjoy local shops, markets or even play a round of golf.
Located about 30 minutes from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Lakeway Houseboat Vacations is easily accessible to numerous locations in eastern Canada and the U.S.
Houseboats
Lakeway Houseboat Vacations offers three great models to choose from. Each houseboat includes:
- Fully-equipped kitchen that includes a stove, oven, refrigerator, utensils, dishes, glassware, pots and pans

Experience Required
Rental customers should have some experience operating boats and a boater operator card. Lakeway Houseboats will issue temporary cards at the marina but it is strongly recommended to obtain the card beforehand. The designated captain must be 21 years of age or older and hold a valid driver’s license.
Licensing
You do not require a boating license (Pleasure Craft Operator Card) to rent a houseboat. Prior to departure you will be provided a safety checklist for review. Be sure to ask any questions if you are not sure. Once completed you will be issued a temporary license that is good for your trip. You will need to keep this document readily available if request by officials.

Linens are not provided. If you are unable to provided your own contact Lakeway Houseboats for ability to rent.
Pets
Small dogs that can stay in their cage while onboard are accepted. Swimming dogs that will go inside the boat are not accepted.
Additional Costs
There are a number of additional costs that you should budget for during your vacation and will depend on the duration of your trip and the distance traveled. Each operator has different policies and should be discussed directly with them. Some costs to will or may include:

Local Weather
May to October weather for Mactaquac, New Brunswick, in half-month steps (days 1–15 and 16 through the end of the month). Air, precipitation, and wet days use nearby Fredericton International Airport observations, about 29 km away (climate ID 8101505).
- Each tile is one half-month from May through October. Early is days 1–15. Late is day 16 through the end of the month. Every tile shows a value.
- Air temperature, precipitation, and wet-day percentage are 2021–2025 daily averages from Environment and Climate Change Canada, Fredericton International Airport (climate ID 8101505). High and low are the average of each year’s half-month mean, so each year counts equally. A year is included for a variable only when that half-month was observed on at least 80% of its days. Precipitation is the mean of each included year’s half-month total; missing days are not filled in. A wet day has at least 0.2 mm, among precipitation observations in the years included for that half-month. Days flagged missing are left out.
- Every half-month has observations on at least 80% of its days, so all five years are included. The largest high and low temperature gap in an included half-month is 2 days, in early May 2022, late July 2021, late July 2022, late July 2023, late July 2025, late August 2023, late September 2023, and late October 2023. The largest precipitation gap in an included half-month is 2 days, in early May 2022, late June 2024, late July 2021, late July 2022, late July 2023, late July 2025, late August 2023, late September 2023, and late October 2023.
- 4 October 2023 is left out of early October. The MSC GeoMet daily record has a maximum of 18.9°C, a minimum of 11.2°C, and 0 mm with no flags. The Environment and Climate Change Canada bulk CSV flags maximum temperature, minimum temperature, and precipitation missing that day, so the day is omitted.
- Precipitation is liquid equivalent (rain plus the water in any snow), in millimetres per half-month.
- Sunshine is not biweekly. Fredericton does not publish bright sunshine. Each month’s existing normal is repeated on both of that month’s tiles. Those hours are 1981–2010 normals from Saint John Airport (climate ID 8104900), about 105 km southeast. Saint John is on the Bay of Fundy and is cloudier than the inland St. John River valley. Those hours are not a 2021–2025 average.
